Thom Bateman, Board President

Thom has been a volunteer at Hearts for over 13 years and currently serves as a volunteer instructor for the veterans program. A lifelong cowboy, he was raised in the quarter horse and commercial cattle business in Montana and Nevada, and grew up with reining and cutting horses. He now farms avocados commercially, having returned to Santa Barbara 15 years ago. He is a member of Los Rancheros Pobres and earned a master’s degree in equine science and a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Montana State University.

 

Sandy Lovett 

Volunteer of the Month April 2014 Sandy LovettA Volunteer and Team Captain for four years, Ms. Lovett joined the Board of Directors in 2013. She enjoys the peaceful atmosphere at Hearts, being in the outdoors with the horses, and watching the riders’ smiles and accomplishments. Currently, Ms. Lovett is the Dining and Banquet Manager at La Cumbre Country Club, and has been since 1983.

 
 
 
 
 

Trey Evans

Barrett Reed

Barrett Reed is a founding partner of Miramar Group, Inc., a Santa Barbara-based real estate firm specializing in commercial property investment, development and management. Prior to founding Miramar Group, Barrett co-founded and remains a managing member of Goodman Reed Motorcars, LLC, a vintage car dealership established in 2003.
A lifelong resident of Santa Barbara, Barrett is active in numerous local non-profit organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors for Hearts Therapeutic Equestrian Center and the Santa Barbara Youth Music Academy. He is passionate about his service as a chaplain at the Santa Barbara County Jail and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary. Barrett is a graduate of the University of Southern California, receiving a bachelor of science degree in business administration/entrepreneurship from the Marshall School of Business.

Barbara Toumayan

Barbara Toumayan moved from St. Louis, Mo to Santa Barbara in January 2002. She became involved with Hearts Therapeutic in 2004 working with the horses and students.  In January 2006 Barbara joined the Heart’s Board and with her business background enjoyed the work. Barbara has been Board President twice and this is currently her third time back on the Board. Other organizations Barbara has been involved with is Braille Institute of Santa Barbara Auxiliary, the Cama Women’s Board,  Social Venture Partners and the Ensemble Theater.

Andrew Wilson

Alexis Weaver

Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, Alexis left to attend American University in Washington, D.C. and Birkbeck University of London, School of Economics. After graduating cum laude with a BA in History and Law, she returned to the west coast, finding her home and heart with husband Michael Weaver. Alexis has held various marketing and management positions over the past 20 years. She has worked and consulted for local companies and non-profits including ABC-CLIO, Rising Media, Celerus Diagnostics and Hearts Therapeutic Equestrian Center. In 2000 she helped found local start-up Fastclick, working as VP of Operations and Director of Marketing Communications. In 2005 she took Fastclick to a public valuation and listing on the NSDQ (FSTC). After the success of Fastclick, she took time to devote herself to her children and volunteer work. She currently manages her father’s foundation, the Ellen H. Atterbury & Malcolm Atterbury, Jr. Foundation, dedicated to ending discrimination and encouraging multi-cultural diversity and respect.
