Combining extensive management experience, a passion for community service and a life-long love of horses, Alexis was appointed Executive Director of Hearts in January 2015, after having served in multiple key volunteer capacities at Hearts for three years. Her career in the for-profit sector—having held positions in operations, marketing and project management in several successful companies—and her deep connections in the community as a 19-year resident, coupled with her education (B.A. in History and Law from American University) and experience administering a local philanthropic foundation are invaluable assets to her work overseeing administrative, fundraising and programmatic functions at Hearts.Devon Sachey Program Director//PATH Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor Devon@heartsriding.org
Devon was born and raised in Santa Barbara, where her family owned and operated Raintree Ranch Equestrian Center. Devon grew up competing Eventing horses, instructing riding lessons and summer camps, and participating in the local Tecelote Pony Club. Shortly after high school, she served in the United States Marine Corps for 5 years, where she was commended for her superior performance as a Sergeant and flight mechanic on the KC-130 Aircraft. After earning a Bachelors Degree in Business Management and Marketing from Northwood University, Devon served as Interim Director and Riding Instructor at the YMCA Camp Carter Equestrian Center in Fort Worth, Texas and later as Operations & Marketing Director of Bardsley Products, Inc. in Santa Barbara.Thom (Gritts) Bateman Board Member//Instructor for the Veteran Program//Equine Manager Thom1946@gmail.com
Gritts has been volunteering at Hearts since 2007. A life long cowboy, Gritts was raised in the Quarter Horse and commercial cattle business in Montana and Nevada. Graduating from Westmont College with a BA in Social Science, Shallon has been teaching equitation for the past ten years. With PATH certifications both as an Instructor and Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning, she is thrilled to bring her love and knowledge of horses to the Hearts Community.
